The Dissocial Mom

As this is my first attempt at Wordless Wednesday (I have only just recently become introduced to this blogging tradition and decided to jump on the wagon) I will cheat just a little and give an explanation as to what wordless wednesday is… for those of you who are not already aware. (I realize I am breaking the rules this very moment as I type these words.)

On Wednesdays all over the internet, bloggers post a photograph with no words to explain it on their blog. Hence the ‘wordless’ title. The idea is that the photo itself says so much that it doesn’t need any description.

I thought this would be a fun thing to give a try!!

Juice IV

I have been making a juice in the morning before i leave for work. These tend to be rather tasty and not at all heavy like the ones I drink later in the day.

1t spirulina
.5 c blueberries
3 strawberries
2.5c unsweetened almond milk
1T maca powder
3 large black kale leaves

This one was excellent. I left it in the Ninja for a little longer and no large bits were in the drink.

1 cutie orange
.25 c blueberries
1 c ice

Much more liquid and very good taste.

2 c unsweetened almond/coconut milk (new product, this stuff is great!)
.3 c almonds
.3 c pineapple
2 c fresh spinach
.5 c orange juice
1T maca powder
2 t spirulina
.3 c blueberries

This one was the best one yet! Great taste and consistency!

This one was good but I am definitely getting a lot of small chunks. This one tasted better after sitting for a couple hours.
I think I need a VitaMix. The chunks are tolerable but after I saw what a VitaMix could do at Costco and Jamba Juice, there is no compaarison. The Ninja will suffice for now until we can come up with the massive amount of money for the VitaMix.

*Note about beets. They stain hands (already mentioned the other effects in a previous post). No big deal unless you are greeting someone at the door. Note to self: Don’t try to shake hands with beet juice all over them (unless you are trying to scare off the visitor/door-to-door salesperson). I figure a good way to get rid of those pesky Jehovah’s Witnesses would be to rub the beet on my mouth and hands yelling “I think old man’s brains taste a little too metallic, save me part of the liver!” as I answer the door would take care of them.

This one was the best so far.
After sitting in the fridge for a day (I forgot to bring it to work yesterday) it got thick. I added some coconut water and mixed it in my blender bottle (dude that thought this up is a genius) and it is perfect.

The Return of the Modern Philosopher

survivor-logoApparently, the tribe is not speaking fast enough.

The hit CBS reality series Survivor has secretly been filming its next season here in Maine during the coldest Winter the state has ever experienced.  This Modern Philosopher was allowed to be on the set for the first few days and filming, and I’m ready to predict that this will be the most difficult season in the show’s history.

During the first week the contestants were in town, the temperatures dipped to -35 degrees with the wind chill.  After the second night of such conditions, the Tribal Councils were a chaotic mishmash of players demanding to be voted off and sent home, or at least exiled to someplace with heat.  Several of the so called Survivors extinguished their own torches and tried to walk off the show.  The production company’s security team had to prevent their departure and filming was stopped until…

Pictures

I know, I know, I promised the juice recipes. I have them but I am at work and it is extremely busy today. I will get it today. I have noticed a lot of pictures on web sites but I have a hard time taking pictures. I forget or I do not remember until after the fact (usually after I have finished the drink :/). I am still getting used to writing the recipes down so give me a little time. I actually took pictures of one recipe I made awhile ago but never posed them because it was a lot more work than just writing the blog. A lot more changes in my life, but hey, what’s one more? I know all the reasons for adding pictures, I just need to adjust how I do things and slow down a bit. I really get into cooking and juicing and by the time I am done I need to hurry and feed the kids or rush off to work. (Excuses, I know) My paradigm for the way I cook and blog needs to shift, nothing more. I wish I could be as good as many of the other beautiful blogs out there, but I am working on it.

Still juicing

I decided to start using beets and more liquid in my blends. This has had interesting side effects. The first is easy, taste is better. It also leaves small pieces in the mix (about the size of the chopped garlic you see in the jars). This is to be expected because I am chopping a root. They add texture but it is not an unpleasant texture. The third is far more interesting and some might get disturbed by this. I have a pink tinge to my pee and my poop turns the toilet water red. I guess you would say “well, duh” to this but I had not really thought about it beforehand. Either it is the beets, or I am bleeding in my colon. I think I will go with the beets. It is certainly a change of pace to pee chardonnay rather than the usual lemonade. I do not have the recipes with me (I am waiting for them to finish putting on a new tire at Walmart) but I will post those later. I guess I should have named this one ‘Peeing Wine’ or something.

Any thoughts are welcome in this whole mess process. I enjoy comments and suggestions. Thanks for reading!
